Por Cristo, a medical/education mission, is a member of Caritas Christi Health Care. Organized in Boston in 1980, Por Cristo's primary focus has been to improve the health of needy Ecuadorian children for nearly 30 years. Por Cristo has established and grown a vibrant Nutrition and Health Center in a very poor area of Guayaquil. Among the offerings of this full service health clinic, mothers and children are taught nutrition basics and health promoting behavior.

For the past 20 years, the Por Cristo Cardiac Team has traveled to Ecuador; for 14 years to Quito. Doctors, nurses, and technicians from leading medical centers volunteer a week teaching, performing cardiac surgery, and cardiac diagnostic studies, alongside Ecuadorian colleagues.
